ioXt Alliance Expands Security Compliance Program

NEWPORT BEACH, California - April 15, 2020 - Today the ioXt Alliance, the global standard for IoT security, announced it is expanding its ioXt Compliance Program by making it available to the public. The Program was defined by leading technology companies to harmonize consumer electronic security standards by which multiple third-party test labs can verify compliance of a manufacturer’s IoT device. It is the industry’s first bonded manufacturer certification, which enables security researchers to validate individual compliance certifications.

ioXt Board Member and Legrand North and Central America Director of Technology, IoT Systems, Jonathan Cartrette commented, “To maximize impact and adoption, it’s critical to have an industry-led security standard and compliance program that’s defined and established by multiple network operators, major consumer electronics companies, silicon vendors and test labs. This transparency and collaboration will allow the Compliance Program to scale in ways that have been challenging to industry.”

Silicon Labs Senior Product Manager, IoT Security Mike Dow said, “Device security must start with secure hardware. The ioXt Compliance Program provides a means for consumers to identify products based on strong security principles and secured hardware platforms and protocols.”

The ioXt Compliance Program is founded on eight core pledge principles that define product security, product upgradability and consumer transparency. These principles map back to global security regulations and provide a customizable method for addressing specific market segmentations, local regulations and channel requirements.

A key element of the ioXt Compliance Program, and an industry first, is third-party test labs combined with a bonded manufacturer’s certification. Through financially backed self-attestation (that is researcher verified), the Program ensures the quality and veracity of the compliance and gives peace of mind to manufacturers and buyers of ioXt-certified products.
