i2Coalition’s VPN Trust Initiative Partners with the ioXt Alliance for VPN Security Certification

As our world continues to operate in predominantly remote environments - for school, work and even leisure - security and privacy remains top of mind for consumers, devices manufacturers, app developers and other relevant stakeholders. Since we are more connected than ever, and there is no signs of that slowing down anytime soon, people and organizations are looking for options to ensure that their sensitive data is protected and that personal information remains private - and VPNs are the most common and easily accessible option for that added layer of security. 

With the rise in popularity of VPNs, especially over the past year, the ioXt Alliance and i2Coalition’s VPN Trust Initiative (VTI) have partnered to ensure users can trust the security of the VPNs available in the market today. Working with experts in industry and academia, the VTI established a set of principles in 2020 focused on promoting privacy and security through VPNs, and establishing standard practices for VPNs that foster trust. This new partnership announced today will bring together the security principles developed by the VTI, mapped against the Alliance’s standards, and the testing infrastructure and process in place from the ioXt Alliance, to achieve their combined goal of enhancing digital safety by making VPNs more secure and transparent for all end-users. 

“As we think about securing IoT, it goes beyond only the actual devices and includes the networks people are working and browsing on as well. VPNs provide peace of mind to those who install them however, they can be flawed and create vulnerabilities that can expose unsuspecting users’ data,” said Brad Ree, CTO of the ioXt Alliance. “This partnership with i2Coalition’s VTI will allow us to join forces to create a safer market by testing and certifying VPNs to ensure they meet the security requirements we created together, which will provide visibility into security levels so users can be confident in the products they are using.”
